What I Do To De-stress In My Free Time

I love hot yoga and gardening.

My Work Style

I tend to be highly ambitious and reach for the stars. I want each one of my clients to reach the highest level of independence as possible. First, it’s very important to build rapport with the entire family. Once rapport is established, we can then build up from there. I also like to discuss priorities with parents and other team members to create a treatment plan that includes the most appropriate but challenging goals!

Areas of Expertise

Early-learner skills, sleeping issues, toilet training, communication deficits, staff training.

Why I Became a BCBA

Since the beginning of time I have always been fascinated with psychology, human behavior and its related fields. I began working with preschoolers and became very interested in child development, special education and behavior analysis. I loved working with children on the Autism spectrum and was encouraged to become a BCBA by a previous supervisor; I am so happy I listened to her!

What Previous Clients Would Say About Me

They would probably say that my passion for what I do is clear, I can be very silly but strict at the same time.

What I Love Most About What I Do

When I get that message from a parent: “Val, thank you so much- your suggestion actually worked!” I love that.

Most Challenging Professional Moment

When I have to give a recommendation for discharge due to a client not making progress. This one hit me hard because it made me feel like I failed this client.

Most Rewarding Professional Moment

When a client completes a task that I did not think was possible. This has brought me to tears many a time, but one experience stands out. I received an email from a parent with a video attached. It was a video of 16-year-old client who was putting ornaments on a Christmas tree for the first time ever!
