What is ABA therapy?

ABA therapy is evidence-based care that is considered a best practice treatment for people with autism by both the US Surgeon General and the American Psychological Association.

The goal of ABA therapy is to equip individuals with the social, behavioral, and communication skills that will allow them greater independence and access to their community over time. In essence, the targeted outcome of ABA therapy is an improvement in overall quality of life.

Our therapy at AnswersNow is not one-size-fits-all, and is very much tailored to the needs of our clients and their families.

What are some benefits of ABA therapy?

Benefits of ABA therapy include a focus on both the child and the environment in which the child learns, plays, and lives every day.

Through a comprehensive assessment that evaluates family priorities, environmental variables, child preferences, strengths, skill deficits, and challenges, a clinician identifies goals that will help increase the child’s independence and address family concerns.

ABA therapy consists of many different approaches and can address a wide variety of concerns. In addition to social, behavioral, and communication skills, ABA therapy can help to address things like self-care, routines, safety skills, self-advocacy, play skills, and motor skills.

How does AnswersNow ABA work?

Our goal is to get individuals into therapy as quickly and seamlessly as possible. Our process is pretty simple:

  1. Meet with a member of the AnswersNow Intake Team for a free, no-obligation phone call.
  2. If eligible for our services, we schedule an Orientation Call for you to meet with one of our clinicians who will gather more information so we can begin to match your child with the best clinician possible. They will also discuss how to use the AnswersNow platform and next steps.
  3. Our Clinical Team will then conduct an Assessment, where we gather more detailed information about your priorities, your child’s preferences, strengths, and challenges, and what level of support your child needs.
  4. Based on your needs and goals, our Clinical Team thoughtfully matches your family with our most suitable Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
  5. From this moment, your child is cared for by a dedicated BCBA, connecting face-to-face via video multiple times per week or daily, depending on your child’s needs.
What are the requirements or expectations from families?

We prioritize Caregiver input and involvement throughout the course of care because we recognize the importance of supporting Caregivers in developing skills they can utilize when we are not around. You are the expert on your own child, and our goal is to provide you with strategies and help you develop skills that you can use every day to help your child be successful.

We work with individuals who have an autism diagnosis, ADHD, or other developmental disabilities who are looking for behavioral therapy.

Many of the people we support also have additional diagnoses. That’s common, and it doesn’t stand in the way of getting care.

Whatever your family is facing, from building everyday skills to managing challenging behaviors, our Board Certified Behavior Analysts meet your loved one where they are. We also work with your child’s other providers, including doctors, therapists, and teachers, so every part of their care works together.

We work with people ages 2 to 25 years old.

Depending on the child and family’s individual needs, our BCBAs will tailor their time spent 1:1 with clients, with both client and caregiver, and 1:1 with caregivers to best target the most important goals.

AnswersNow is committed to serving clients and families with diverse needs and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, religious affiliation, or sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, and genetic information) in the provision of services or in its policies and procedures.

What does the AnswersNow ‘virtual’ model look like?

With the help of our team of BCBAs, our team built a custom virtual platform that allows us to deliver remote ABA therapy that mirrors the controlled environment of an in-person or in-clinic experience. We have successfully delivered over 10,000 hours of therapy and do everything virtually, from intake to assessment and ongoing therapy sessions.

Direct Therapy + Caregiver Training

  • Your child meets live with their Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) over secure video on the AnswersNow platform. The BCBA works directly with your child on the goals you’ve set together, whether that’s building new skills or reducing behaviors that get in the way of daily life.
  • You’re nearby during sessions to help when needed: supporting your child’s behavior, offering encouragement, or helping with the technology.
  • You’ll also meet with your BCBA at least once a week for a caregiver training session. This is in addition to your child’s one-on-one sessions, and it gives you the tools to support your child’s progress between sessions.

Caregiver-Mediated Therapy

  • In this model, you’re in the driver’s seat with your BCBA coaching you. During live video sessions with your child present, the BCBA guides you step by step as you use proven strategies with your child. You take an active part for the whole session, so you build confidence using these skills in your everyday routines.
  • You’ll also meet with your BCBA at least once a week without your child present. These sessions focus on your questions, your progress, and planning ahead.

Caregiver Training

  • This model focuses on you as the person who knows your child best. You meet live with your BCBA over secure video to learn strategies you can use at home. These sessions usually happen without your child present, though your BCBA may invite your child to join when it helps you practice skills together.
  • Between sessions, you’ll track how your child is doing. Your BCBA uses that information to see what’s working and adjust the plan. Your BCBA will also see your child directly at least once a month to check on their progress firsthand.
Where does therapy happen?

Your child learns best in the places where they live their life. That’s why AnswersNow BCBAs meet with your family over secure video, usually right in your home, where everyday routines like mealtimes, bedtime, and playtime happen.

Sessions may also take place when appropriate in the community, like the grocery store, the park, or a restaurant. Your child practices skills in real-life settings, with your BCBA coaching along the way.
